Hip & Historic Hotels in Tulsa:: Aloft + Mayo PicTOURials

by Malena Lott

Road trips are a summer staple for family getaways and date weekends. We’ve got two spots in Tulsa to take a look at for your next road trip.

The first is Aloft Hotel, a contemporary chain that gets big points for the hip factor and value. Located in downtown OKC, both this location and Mayo are walking distance to BOK Center if you’re enjoying an event there this summer.

I stayed at Aloft over Memorial Weekend for a girlfriends w/kids getaway so we appreciated the modest room rates ($85 via Priceline) and the small pool for the kids to cool off after our trip to the Tulsa Zoo. If you love contemporary design, you’ll get it in spades. The bar is pretty chic, too and I loved the arrangement of the conversation seating in the great room. If you like to work off the dinner and drinks from the night before, you can hit the “recharge” gym which has several pieces of equipment and free weights, but bring your sunglasses because you’re facing the sun in the mornings. Maybe a late-night workout would be better? The bed and shower were both above bar and the double sinks were a nice plus.

Two eggshell chairs, but you may want to share!
Bright and colorful is the order of the day at Aloft
Even the lights get the brights
You can’t help but look up when the lighting scheme is so stylish
Loads of natural light
Contemporary and not color shy, are they?
One of the conversation centers. Love this layout.
Also in the bar – two sectionals like this
Plenty of seating, even on weekends

Now, let’s walk a block over to the gorgeous Art Deco historic Mayo Hotel in downtown Tulsa located at  115 West 5th Street. Rooms start at $139 and it’s worth every penny. While we didn’t stay there this time, we had to go visit. Elegance at every turn!

A nice resting spot for the weary
Even the kid looks pretty important in that chair
