Decorating Ideas for Vintage Picking

by Malena Lott

The Sooner Picker Sisters – Ali, Jill and I – went to the Old Chicken Farm vintage sale in Jones, OK Saturday. The sunny morning was made even sunnier by all the cheerful vendors and thoughtful collections. With more than a hundred booths, you were sure to find “something.”

Our mission was to look for any vintage item that would look great in Vi and Brian’s home in Yukon we’re decorating this month. (You’ll remember they had us do the front of their house back in February.) We did buy a couple pieces for them, but not telling so we can do a big reveal of the family room, dining room and master bedroom at the end of the month. Thanks to Jill for spotting them!

We also had personal shopping lists and we’re always on the lookout for the unusual. We’ve gathered some tips and ideas to share with you the next time you go “picking.”

Here’s what we found…and some ideas for your Sooner Space!

Art made out of golf tees. Love this! Express your personality in your space.
Show your state pride with wood Okie-shaped art.
Props to this booth Chick A Tee.
Gorgeous sunshine and a big turnout. Way to go, Jones!
Spice up your space with metal signs. These cabin/nature ones caught our eye.
A sign can show off your family’s personality, too.
Wire basket could make a great centerpiece with jars and fresh flowers or a collection of season-inspired items.
Fun use for vintage shutters. Would look great in a kitchen or mud room.
One of our favorite things! Gorgeous vintage doors from Mexico and beyond. Switch yours out: pantry? game room? dining room?
No words for how gorgeous this is. True history.
Couldn’t resist this backdrop to use for an SPS group pic to commemorate the day!
Ha! The chicken sale had a chicken! Did not see live ones, though.
A couple of handmade purchases from @designsbyjamie. Check her out on etsy! Ali helped me decide. So many great patterns.
I bought these mid-century modern art pieces for my family room next to the MCM console. Love the colors and style.
Painted and recovered dining room chairs are always a smart find if it’s the style and color you are looking for.

Ali bought the ladder for quilts. You could also use in the bathroom as a towel holder.
